When a major player like Elation Lighting makes a move, it tends to ripple across the entire entertainment tech landscape. The company has officially acquired X-Laser, the Maryland-based manufacturer that’s spent nearly two decades making professional laser systems more creative, compliant, and console-friendly. The acquisition marks a big step not just for Elation, but for the broader ADJ Group — signaling a future where lasers, fixtures, and effects live under one connected ecosystem.

A New Chapter: Elation Lighting And X-Laser USA
As part of the transition, X-Laser will continue operating under its own name through a new entity, X-Laser USA, at its current headquarters in Laurel, Maryland. The facility will remain a hub for manufacturing, prototyping, and R&D, while also serving as Elation’s East Coast service center. All existing customers will continue to receive full product support, warranty coverage, and service through that location, now reinforced by Elation’s global infrastructure and distribution network.
Strengthening a Shared Vision
The acquisition aligns with Elation’s long-term goal of evolving from a fixture manufacturer into a comprehensive lighting solutions provider. Integrating X-Laser’s technology and expertise brings an advanced layer of creative capability to the company’s offerings — giving it a proven provider of laser fixtures and a partner to help extend its reach into the growing world of laser-sourced lighting fixtures. From Elation’s perspective, X-Laser brings both proven technical expertise and a track record of innovation that makes professional laser systems more intuitive and accessible for lighting designers. For X-Laser, joining forces with a company of Elation’s scale opens the door to faster development cycles, expanded distribution, and access to new markets — all while maintaining the creative independence and identity the brand has built since its founding.

Global Reach, Local Expertise
From Los Angeles to Mexico City to the Netherlands, Elation’s network will now manage X-Laser’s current lineup and future releases of production-grade lasers (such as the Skywriter and Triton), ensuring smoother logistics and broader availability for designers and specifiers worldwide. For users, that means easier integration, consistent service, and a unified approach to production design across the ADJ Group family. Meanwhile, X-Laser’s Laurel facility remains central to its identity. It will continue to drive product innovation, R&D, support, and compliance, reflecting the brand’s continued commitment to developing and manufacturing in the U.S. with the added support of Elation’s infrastructure.

What This Means for the Industry
For lighting professionals, the impact is tangible. The acquisition sets the stage for tighter interoperability between fixtures, effects, and laser systems. With products like X-Laser’s Mercury control platform, which allows lasers to be run directly from lighting consoles via DMX, RDM, Art-Net, and sACN, the combined resources of both companies will help push the boundaries of what’s possible in cohesive visual design.
Beyond product innovation, this partnership strengthens the entire ADJ Group ecosystem. X-Laser’s technology and expertise will inform future developments across sister brands like ADJ Products and Acclaim Lighting, creating more synergy across the group’s offerings.

Marking a New Era
X-Laser enters this next chapter with a revamped visual identity, unveiling a new logo, gradient design, and the slogan “X Marks Innovation.” The look signals both continuity and forward momentum, a nod to the company’s roots and the innovation driving its future.

The Road Ahead
The timing couldn’t be more fitting. Elation enters its 30th year in business as the ADJ Group celebrates its 40th anniversary, milestones that underscore both legacy and evolution. Together, Elation and X-Laser are shaping the next chapter in lighting design: one defined not by more gear, but by smarter integration and a shared commitment to creative possibility.
Customer FAQ
As Elation and X-Laser move forward together, users can rest assured that the same trusted team and processes remain in place.
Can I still get my laser repaired at X-Laser?
Yes! We are continuing to certify, repair, and service all X-Laser systems just as before and with the same experienced team of technicians. Now, we also function as the East Coast service center for Elation products.
Is my variance still good?
Yes! Nothing is changing with our EZ Variance process or the validity of current variances we helped users obtain. We maintain our excellent relationship with the FDA and will keep processing users' variances for approval just as before. (Here's another reminder to file your Annual Report if you haven't yet: The FDA accepts late submissions even after September 1.)
