Programming Details

The rig is predetermined and outfitted with Ayrton fixtures; however, you can add up to twelve additional fixtures of your choice. You can also add hanging positions for your extra fixtures, so this is the perfect opportunity to get creative and stand out from other entries! ACT has also explicitly stated that video content won't be considered when considering entries. Flex your lighting programming muscles here! ACT has also provided a Magic Sheet for your convenience.

Entry Details

You must program your show using grandMA3 software version 1.9 or later, and playback should be recorded using timecode. Submit a video recording with audio and your grandMA3 show file. The contest will be accepting submissions until August 31st, 2023.

The competition is open to students enrolled in secondary or higher education programs in the US or Canada. To enter the contest, you'll need to submit your work to academy@actentertainment.com. Students can make submissions with a faculty sponsor copied or directly by the faculty sponsor on behalf of the student. Please remember to include "grandMA3 Programming Contest 2023" in the subject line to ensure your entry is categorized correctly.

Music & Theme

The 2023 theme is "Superstar Debuts," you have the exciting task of choosing a song from the list below, including records on the first album of eventual superstars. Choose from iconic artists such as Britney Spears, Florence + the Machine, Katy Perry, Mötley Crüe, BTS, or Bruno Mars. Let the song inspire a captivating design that reflects the energy of a superstar's debut.

Judging & Winners

Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of entertainment lighting professionals and announced at LDI in Las Vegas, NV, in December 2023. The grand prize includes a grandMA3 onPC command wing XT and a grandMA3 viz-key for your educational institution, along with a grandMA3 viz-key for the individual winner.

The first and second runners-up will also receive exciting prizes, including a grandMA3 onPC command wing and a grandMA3 viz-key for their institutions, along with a grandMA3 viz-key for the individual winners.
