The Volux PHYTON: A Closer Look at the IP66 Hybrid Profile

In 2025, Volux Lighting showed up to Ultra Music Festival for the first time and was immediately thrown into the fire. Or water, that is. After a storm rolled through Bayfront Park on Day 3, not a single error was found in a single Volux IP65-rated fixture. A first impression like this earns trust in the industry, and it set the stage for what was next to come in 2026.

During Ultra 2026 earlier this year, Volux returned to the RESISTANCE Megastructure with their worldwide debut of the PHYTON, an IP66-rated hybrid profile that had never before been seen in a live production. Lighting Designer Evan Bloom of Tradewind Productions hung 52 of these fixtures upstage as a central design element, and after watching them crush the whole weekend, we wanted to take a closer look at this fixture’s specs.

Volux Lighting PHYTON Output: Beam, Zoom, and Framing Shutters

The first thing you notice about the PHYTON is its beam. Its thick, dense, and stunning fat beam is what we usually associate with big discharge fixtures. But calling the PHYTON a beam fixture would sell it short. This is a true hybrid profile that happens to throw one of the most convincing fat beams we have seen in an LED engine.

Under the hood sits a 600W LED engine producing up to 32,000 lumens, with a native zoom range from 1.9 to 52 degrees. At the narrow end, the optics create a concentrated beam that holds up at long throw distances without needing an iris or beam reducers. Both are still in the fixture when you want them.

Most will make you choose between a tight beam or usable framing. The PHYTON comes with both. Full blackout framing shutters work across the entire zoom range. Add frost at the wide range and the PHYTON becomes a wide spot or wash projection, which is exactly the flexibility a hybrid should deliver.

High-Efficiency Optics: Why the PHYTON Holds Its Output

The high-efficiency optical system is where the PHYTON separates itself from the other hybrids. Throw in textured gobos, stack multiple prisms, open it up for wide coverage and the output doesn’t taper. We were blown away by its sharp gobos that produce a liquid sky effect much like a laser. The complete effects kit is impressive: a static gobo wheel, a wheel of interchangeable rotating gobos, an animation wheel, plus six stackable prisms.

"The PHYTON’s ability to produce a consistent 'fat beam' was outstanding for its size. It went up against discharge fixtures of the same type and definitely proved that LED engines can provide a strong beam source," LD Evan Bloom told us.

The color system is CMY plus CTO mixing alongside a color wheel loaded with dichroic filters, with high-CRI filtering available for camera work. Volux also includes MINTRA, their minus mint and green adjustment for color calibration designed for both the camera and the human eye. For anyone in broadcast or media-heavy shows, that’s a valuable inclusion at the PHYTON’s price.

The PHYTON comes with an IP66 rating, a step above the IP65 standard for which most of the production world has settled. That extra layer of durability allows you bank on an extended life.

The ROI math is also compelling. With output and optics that compete with discharge lamps and laser engines, the PHYTON conveniently runs at a lower upkeep and operating cost. There are no lamps to replace, and there are no laser safety officers, variance paperwork, or certification costs to carry. Weighing just 68.3 lbs (31 kg), the PHYTON is considerably lightweight for a 600W IP66 hybrid profile. It’s designed for speed, agility and, believe it or not, low-noise performance. Plus, its built-in CRMX wireless alongside DMX, RDM, Art-Net, and sACN means it’s ready for whatever infrastructure the gig hands you. Between its data compatibility, hushed movements, low weight, weather resistance, and the range of looks built into just one unit, we see this fixture fitting tours, festivals and permanent installs.
